WHEN SERVANT BECOMES A KING

" At the end of the day I would rather be humbly sitting at God's feet than proudly bowing down to illusion. " - Mahatma Das (Author, Spiritual master and Lifestyle trainer) Better to be a servant in the spiritual world than a King in the material world because the King of this world also has to call it a day .  As the Italian proverb goes - " Once the game is over, the King and the pawn go back in the same box. " That's why all the scriptures and saints from all traditions implore and inspire us to shift our focus from this temporary world to our permanent home, from "being this worldly" to "being other worldly" or from "here" to "there". The following verse from the Bible captures this essence brilliantly - " Don't make your treasures in this world - the moths will eat it, thieves will steal it and rust will corrode it. Better to make your treasures in the spiritual world where neither moth nor rust nor ...

THE MOTHERLY TOUCH (Dedicated to all mothers)

" It may be possible to gild pure gold but who can make his mother more beautiful " - Mahatma Gandhi We all exist because of our mothers. We owe our entire existence to them. But the scriptures explain that we have not one but a couple of them. Being connected to them is the way we can fill our life with love, nourishment and a sense of security.  MOTHER OF BIRTH A few days ago, while I was traveling in the train from Mathura to Delhi, I saw a young mother with her little baby. I could witness the natural love a mother has for her child. Whenever another train would cross our train, she would jump to close the ears of the sleeping baby, so that he is not disturbed in his sleep. When Sun started to shine on the child's face, she at once closed the shutter of the window. I started to think of all the inconveniences my mother must have taken for me - the sleepless nights she must have spent in taking care of me as a child, the commitment and consistency to cook f...

STEP OUT to STEP UP

Don't live the same day over and over again and call that a life. Life is about evolving mentally, spiritually and emotionally . -   Germany Kent We all have our own comfort zones which we don't want to leave. Why? Because life is very predictable and set according to our convenience. "Why should you leave all this to embrace a life of risk, unpredictability and inconvenience", reasons the mind. This may be true but it also true that life without challenges is not life at all - it is just survival. We are born not to survive but to thrive. Thrive means growth and growth means the growth process. And the growth process is always not easy but the result is always amazing.   THE PROCESS OF GROWTH Just like a caterpillar goes through a struggle to come out of the cocoon, but that struggle, that growth, transforms it into the most beautiful butterfly similarly coming out of our cocoon of comfort may be difficult but the fruits are exceedingly wonderful. Or just li...

WHEN MASTER BECOMES A SERVANT..

" If you want happiness for an hour, take a nap. If you want happiness for a day, go for a picnic. If you want happiness for a month, get married. If you want happiness for a lifetime, serve others. " - Chinese Proverb When and where have we seen a master take the role of a servant? Probably never or if at all, very rarely. Here, I would like to briefly touch upon a few touching stories from the life of Lord Krishna, who even though is The Supreme Master of everything and everyone, still happily chooses to play the role of a servant to His devotees.  THE RECEPTIONIST Much, much before the Mahabharata war, when Yudhishthira was performing the Rajasuya sacrifice to be crowned as the undisputed emperor of the world, all his friends and relatives were assigned different departments to take care of, depending on thier tastes and inclinations. Bhima was in-charge of the kitchen, Sanjaya was in-charge of the protocol and of taking care of Kings from various lands, Duryodhan was in...

THE SERIOUSLY FUNNY WORLD

Someone is born, Someone dies. Someone is hired, Someone is fired. Someone is married, Someone gets divorced. Someone gets rich, Someone gets poor. Someone is praised, Someone is criticised. Someone is a success, Someone is a failure. What kind of world is this? Is this a serious place or a funny one? I would say - this is a seriously funny place. THE SERIOUS SIDE In the Bible, Jesus Christ tells his follower the story of Prodigal son - of a son who wanted to check out the world on his own. He forced his father to give him his share of money and left home confidently yet naively. The result - he slowly lost all his money and became bankrupt. Then, he realised all the warnings his father had given him and he understood that this world is after all not that easy - it is filled with all sorts of difficulties. This is the story of all of us. We all, confidently left the spiritual world, our original home not realising what we were getting into - we probably would have never imagined that...
