THE FESTIVAL OF RAINS

"Thus observing the beauty and opulence of Vrindavana's rainy season, a perennial source of great happiness, Lord Krishna offered all respect to that season, which was expanded from His own internal potency." - Srimad Bhagvatam 10.20.31

Every season and every time is a wonderful opportunity to meditate on the Lord and engage in His devotional service. But, rainy season is all the more special. With the summer gone and the rains come, a sense of newness and freshness comes in life. The weather is perfect for our Bhajan - cool and pleasant. Mother Nature is at her best with fresh green grass and fresh leaves. She is nourished and refreshed by the rains, encouraging us to nourish and refresh ourselves through the nectar shower of the Holynames. The external environment is now clean, bathed by the continuous rains signaling us to summon the clouds of Lord's mercy to rain in the landscape of our heart and thereby clean it.

The traveling preachers, saints and devotees of Vedic times, would take a break from their traveling during the rainy season and stay put in one place and absorb themselves in their Sadhana. They would make the best use of this special and festive season to deepen their connection with God and experience an internal festival of chanting and hearing the glories of the Lord. Just as a peacock which is very dear to Krishna becomes enlivened and welcomes the rains, a devotee of Krishna becomes enlivened and welcomes the rainy season as an opportunity to welcome the God of rains, Krishna in his heart and life.

GIVING UP PETTINESS to EXPERIENCE PRETTINESS

"The process of Krishna consciousness will empower us when we empower it." The other day as I was taking a bath, the plastic bucket I was using, slipped and cracked. A piece from the rim of the bucket broke off and cut my finger. As I was waiting for the bucket to refill with water, I noticed that even after a long time the bucket wasn't filling up. It's at that time, I noticed a "not so apparent" crack at the bottom of the bucket which was causing all the water to leak out. I drew a lesson from this incident which is applicable to my spiritual life. SEALING THE LEAKS The process of spiritual life or Krishna consciousness which includes the nine fold limbs beginning with Shravanam (hearing) and Kirtanam (chanting) is like filling the container - the vessel of our hearts. For the vessel of our hearts to fill up, it should be leak free. If the container is faulty and contains many holes, the best of content, in the best of quantity will not help it fill. Ana...

FOREST OF THE GRACEFUL MOTHER

Thank you Oh Srimati Radharani, Oh Divine Mother for giving this fallen and sinful soul entrance into Your personal abode, Sri Vrindavan. I know that I am fully unqualified to step onto this holy land of Yours but Your mercy is unfathomable, unimaginable and incalculable. A day before our departure from Goa, I had developed some throat infection and was feeling slightly feverish. I was not sure if I could make it. All the more, we didn't get a direct flight to Delhi. We were supposed to hop over in Mumbai and then take another flight to Delhi. With the increase in Covid cases across India and especially in Maharashtra, there was news that we might have to go through Covid tests in both Mumbai and Delhi airports. Being a little sick, I was not sure what the test results would turn out to be. But by the mercy of Radharani, there were no tests conducted in either of the airports. Radharani arranged everything so nicely for us because of our tiny, little desire to vi...

POWER OF CONSISTENTCY - POWER OF DAILY LITTLE

Yesterday, we completed our discussion on the second canto of Srimad-bhagavatam in our daily morning Facebook class. It's a really wonderful feeling to have been blessed with this opportunity to serve the devotees and read and share based on Srila Prabhupada's purports. Very grateful for this opportunity to serve and thankful to all the devotees who supported me in this service. Reading Prabhupada books is on one level but when you share and preach based on what you read, then the experience is all together different. Only with sharing does the process of reading gets complete. May all devotees experience the joy of reading and sharing Srila Prabhupada's books.   I have also realised time and again the power of consistency, the power of steadiness and the power of daily little. As Srimad-bhagavatam itself encourages us - "nityam bhagavata sevaya". Just by doing few slokas everyday, we completed the first canto and now the second canto. Every task seems big, as l...
